Mastering Landed Costs in Global Trade

What is Landed Cost?

Landed cost is the total price of a product once it has arrived at a buyer's door. It includes the original price of the product, all transportation fees (freight), customs duties, taxes (like VAT/GST), insurance, currency conversion, and any other handling fees.

Why is calculating landed cost important?

Without knowing your true landed cost, you cannot accurately price your products or determine your profit margins. Unexpected customs duties, port charges, or fluctuating exchange rates can completely wipe out your expected profit.

What is the difference between FOB and CIF?

FOB (Free On Board) means the seller pays for transportation of the goods to the port of shipment, plus loading costs. The buyer pays freight, insurance, unloading costs, and transportation from the arrival port to the final destination. CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) means the seller pays costs, freight, and insurance to bring the goods to the destination port.

Does this calculator use live exchange rates?

Yes. Our Landed Cost Calculator securely fetches the latest live currency exchange rates from the global market every 6 hours, ensuring your estimates reflect the current economic reality.
